INTERVIEWS
This project utilises interviews with curators and experts on the topics of race and blackness within the arts. These first-hand interviews aim to discover and discuss how curators work in general and in relation to race; public and private issues they may face when curating race; how blackness is understood by the interviewee and relevant large arts institutions; and what it means to ethically curate.
An anthropologist with a background in curation and public programming. Banson is a Black woman who has worked with small and large galleries and creative institutions.
Event Producer, DJ and Co-Director of Peckham Palms in London, a business space primarily made for Black women. Ellesse has worked as part of grassroots creative movements aiming to uplift the Black community in the face of white-gentrification in South London.
Head of African Art at Sothebys. Based in the UK, O’Leary works with clients worldwide selling art from the African continent and diaspora and has a solid grasp on the Black British and African arts market.
Curator, Production Manager in Art Installation and Creative Producer. Carroll recently curated and produced REFRAME at London’s Southbank Centre, an exhibition showcasing 77 young Black artists’ creative responses to the theme of climate emergency through audiovisual installation.
